Switching on Your “Love Response”
January 28, 2011 | Filed Under 2011, Love for No Reason, Marci Shimoff | 2 Comments
Does all this talk about unconditional love and living with an inner state of love sound like it’s for someone else, but not you? Is it hard to imagine living your life with an open heart because there are so many other things to worry about?
Between economic concerns, caring for aging parents, raising toddlers or teenagers, and losing that last 10 pounds, life can feel overwhelming. It can also feel like an uphill battle or constant challenge that you are taking on all by yourself.
When you’re scared and anxious about things in your life, or feeling alone, it’s hard to welcome love in, isn’t it? That’s often when love, in the form of romantic love, may seem like the answer to your problems. With a partner you might not feel so financially burdened or struggle to raise your children by yourself. But love for or from someone else is not the type of love I’m referring to – that’s Love for Good Reason.
What I wish for you and want to help you find is Love for No Reason. The good news is that it’s possible to live a life of unconditional love even when life’s challenges seem ever-present. This deep anchoring in well-being beyond worry is what we feel when the the body’s stress response is switched off and the “love response” is switched on..
What does it feel like when you hear (and say) the following words?
I am supported. I trust I’ll be taken care of, even if I don’t always know how or by whom.
What I learned from the Love Luminaries I interviewed was they all project an inner confidence of “being held” by life. Their ability to love unconditionally comes from feeling supported unconditionally. To live with a wide-open heart ourselves, we need to sense the three distinct circles of support in our lives – physical, emotional, and spiritual.
The first circle (physical) – relates to the feeling that you can sustain your basic needs and that you’re safe, no matter what’s going on outside.
The second circle (emotional) – involves the people (and sometimes pets) whose presence helps you feel safe and comforted. Being aware that there are people you can count on for help and encouragement makes it easier to live with an open heart. When you consciously register the trust you have for the people in your life, it activates the brain centers and hormones associated with trusting.
The third circle (spiritual) – having a fundamental trust in a friendly universe – one that is always supporting you. When we feel the universe is friendly, we develop the most profound and reassuring kind of support there is: unconditional trust.
Getting grounded and feeling your support are the keys that activate the body’s love response. You support the opening of your heart by slowing down and connecting to the calm core of security within in. Try these exercises to increase the flow of love through you.
- When you’re facing a challenge, sense the support of a friendly universe by looking for the ways that the situation is ultimately serving you. Ask yourself, Is this for my enjoyment, growth or both?
- Using the Circles of Support Process, take stock of the support – physical, emotional and spiritual – that is all around you. Consciously registering feelings of safety and support creates neural pathways that allow you to relax.
Remember that Einstein said the most important decision you can make is whether to believe you live in a friendly universe – one that’s always supporting you. What decision will you make today – start with just one day and then move on to one week, one month, etc. What you’ll find is the universe will send you more of the same – more of what you’re focusing on. We always find evidence to support our beliefs. What beliefs will you hold with you today?
Love for No Reason is Paying it Forward

Wow – I am so touched by how many people are eager to experience more love and a more open-hearted life.
People who are reading my new book, Love for No Reason, are emailing me and calling me in tears saying they feel their hearts opening to a love they always wanted to experience but never knew was possible (let alone knew how to attain).
Before I did the research and started to write the book, I was like most people – my love (for myself and others) came from circumstances, people, and things. When I looked for love and acceptance externally, I never felt the joy of unconditional love. Now I know what I was missing. What a difference a couple of years can make!
The great news is you don’t have to spend years getting to an inner state of love – what I call Love for No Reason. You only have to practice the seven steps I demonstrate in the book. In it, you’ll also read the amazing and encouraging stories of people who have successfully dissolved their blocks to unconditional love. I can’t wait for you to read about Sally, one of the 150 Love Luminaries I interviewed. Sally was able to use self-forgiveness to heal what her doctors called “liver failure for no medical reason.” Her story and many others will truly inspire you.
Here are just a few of the wonderful reactions that have been coming in…
Figuring Out Love…
This book was extremely helpful for me. Like many people, I’ve been looking for love outside myself all my life, and now I’m excited to think I can generate that love inside myself. I found the 7-step program for creating an internal experience of love to be really effective. This is what the world needs now! Everyone should read this book and we won’t have war anymore! – R.S.
You’ll Love Love for No Reason…
Exquisite book with exquisite principles and real-life practices to experience love. Marci taps into our deepest wants, desires and reason for being here. This book on love is transformational and will have you looking at love from a fresh perspective and experience it in a new way. – S.D.
A Love Game Changer…
Most books on love are just about romantic love. This is a different kind of book about a different kind of love, one that’s much more valuable. It’s about living from a state of love. It’s refreshing to think of love as being something we have some control over. This is a really important, life-changing book, and I’m so glad I’m starting my new year off with it. Thanks AGAIN, Marci Shimoff, for showing us the way. My New Year’s Eve resolution this year is to be more outwardly loving, as well as forgiving, and this book is helping me to pave that path. – S.R.
My wish is that you experience what it is like to live a life of unconditional love. It is a transformational experience, and I feel blessed to provide you with the tools to get you there.

What Can You Learn from 150 Love Luminaries?

Have you ever found yourself wanting to learn something new? Anything? It could be as simple as how to use your new digital video camera (not so simple, right?) to something as complex as how to be a better spouse, parent or person.
If you are like me you go right to the source. You find people and resources that have mastered what you are trying to learn. You get answers, listen to stories and compile all the facts so you can apply it to your own life circumstances.
After traveling to speak about Happy for No Reason I started to meet people who were more than just happy. Really? Most of us strive for happiness but who ever knew there was something even better! These people were filled with Love. Not because of someone or something and not as a result of a circumstance. These people experienced unconditional love: an inner state of love, what I call Love for No Reason.
I came to refer to them as Love Luminaries and I started to ask questions, I enjoyed many great stories and yes, I compiled my data. What I discovered after interviewing over 150 of these “Love Luminaries,” is that although they come from all walks of life and have diverse personalities, they all share seven main qualities. They
- feel safe and supported in the world
- experience physical and emotional vitality
- love themselves unconditionally
- are able to give and receive love fully
- communicate compassionately
- perceive beauty and truth within and around themselves
- feel connected to a power larger than themselves
I know that the more we experience unconditional love, the more extraordinary our lives become, and the more that we contribute to greater love in the world.
The good news is that anyone can develop these qualities. That’s why I’m so excited to share what I learned from these Love Luminaries and how I have personally experienced the benefits of this inner state of love in my new book Love For No Reason: 7 Steps to Creating a Life of Unconditional Love
Do you know anyone who radiates love? Do you have a personal experience with this remarkable feeling of self-love? Do you share the seven qualities of the Love Luminaries listed above? I would love for you to share your story in the comments section of this blog.
PLEASE Mark your calendars! 1-11-11 is the Day of Love For No Reason. This coming Tuesday, January 11th, is the big launch of my new book, Love For No Reason. I would love for you to take advantage of the free bonus gifts and help spread the message of living with an inner state of love to as many people as possible by making your purchases on Tuesday.
2011 – What’s Your Theme?
January 6, 2011 | Filed Under 2011, Beginnings, Love, Love for No Reason, Marci Shimoff | 8 Comments
We’re almost through the first week of 2011 – how time flies! As we move into the new year, I‘ve been reflecting back on 2010 – with a smile! (I hope you can as well.)
Last January, I shared how each year I pick a theme for the year to guide me and give a context for all of my experiences. The theme I chose for 2010 was Trust. And boy did I need it! Trust turned out to be the perfect theme to keep my heart open through a year that included the loss of my marriage, 3 friends, our family home and my mother. It helped me relax and let in more love. Though I was tested in many ways, I learned to trust myself and trust life on a deeper level than I ever had before.
One of the expressions that stuck with me through the year was “Life doesn’t happen to me, it happens for me.” Whenever I started to worry or feel anxiety about the challenges I was facing, I turned in trust to that feeling that life was supporting in ways I couldn’t even see.
As I just ‘gave birth” to my newest book, Love for No Reason, it feels appropriate that my theme for 2011 is the year of Love. I’ve already done a dozen interviews so far this year, and I can see that I’ll be getting to spend my days this year talking all about love, so I set this as my intention:
I Live This Year with An Open Heart.
While you’ve been reading this, has a theme come to you? Are you having a strong pull to a particular word, phrase or concept? Maybe there’s more than one. Jot them down. Sit with them for a while and see which one speaks the loudest to you.
I encourage you to select a theme that will help you open your heart and help you grow in your experience of love. You’ll know you’ve found the right one for you when you’re uplifted just thinking about it. Then set an intention with a short phrase that becomes your “mantra” for the year. Make sure this resonates deeply in your heart.
Having a theme for your year is the first step of what I call The Magic Formula of Manifestation: Intention, Attention, and No Tension.
Follow these steps to build a strong foundation for 2011:
- Select a theme for your year that sings to your soul.
- Create a vision board with your theme at the top. (I made mine last week and I love looking at it.)
- Make a habit of looking for the ways your theme shows up throughout your day
I would love to support your effort to keep you focused on your theme. Please go to my Facebook Fan page and post your theme on my wall. This will help to make it real AND you may very well help someone else in our community find their theme. There is no better way to stay accountable than when you have other people sharing and supporting you.
May your theme carry you through this year in happiness and, of course, in love.
